Frequently asked questions.

Core Product & Value Proposition

  • FoodVu is a structured sustainability data management platform that enables organisations to manage, govern, model, and share product-level environmental data across their value chain.

  • No. FoodVu is focused on structured data management at Organisation > Asset > Variant > Unit level. Reporting is an outcome, not the core function

  • FoodVu is designed for organisations managing product-level sustainability data across supply chains, including manufacturers, brands, suppliers, and value chain partners.

  • It addresses fragmented, inconsistent, and poorly governed sustainability data by providing structured management, lifecycle allocation, governance controls, and controlled data sharing.

  • FoodVu operates at structured product/variant level with lifecycle metric allocation, Data Management Profiles for governance control, and interoperability through exchange protocols such as PACT. It is management-first rather than insight-first.

  • AI tools generate summaries. FoodVu manages governed, structured data tied to defined methodologies, lifecycle stages, units of measure, and controlled exchange events.

  • By standardising required attributes through category schemas, enabling reusable structured submissions, and supporting governed data exchange rather than repeated ad hoc requests.

  • By standardising required attributes through category schemas, enabling reusable structured submissions, and supporting governed data exchange rather than repeated ad hoc requests.

  • FoodVu is built to exchange structured sustainability data using defined protocols. Exchange records are stored as events, ensuring traceability and governance.

Governance & Control

  • Through structured attribute schemas by category, controlled Units of Measure, Data Management Profiles (DMPs), organisation-level configuration, and governed export processes.

  • DMPs define what data can be included in outputs such as Variant Information Sheets and sustainability exchanges. They act as a control plane for data visibility and sharing.

  • Yes. Data Management Profiles determine which fields are included in shared outputs and exchanges.

  • Security is foundational to FoodVu’s architecture and operating model. While ISO 27001 and SOC 2 Type II certifications are not yet in place, we are actively progressing toward these standards as part of our security maturity roadmap.

  • Yes. FoodVu is compliant with GDPR where applicable, specifically in relation to the processing of personal data of EU residents.

  • FoodVu uses organisation-level access controls, role-based permissions, and governed data exchange processes. Security controls are embedded in platform design and operations.

Sustainability Scope & Metrics

  • FoodVu supports structured sustainability attributes defined in the Base Sustainability Attribute Specification, including carbon emissions (e.g., fossilGHGEmissions, biogenicEmissions), lifecycle distributions (CLD), and other environmental metrics defined by category specifications (F&B, Packaging, Facilities, Transport).

  • FoodVu aligns with the WBCSD PACT Product Carbon Footprint specification for structured data exchange and supports lifecycle stage allocation through Cross-Lifecycle Distribution.

  • Not yet. PCF generation is on the roadmap. FoodVu already captures and manages all required PCF fields in a structured way, positioning the platform to support compliant PCF generation and exchange as this capability is released.

  • FoodVu supports manual lifecycle allocation and contextual overrides through Cross-Lifecycle Distribution where automated or modelled data is unavailable. Null sections can be omitted from outputs where appropriate.

Enterprise Readiness & Integration

  • FoodVu supports structured data exchange and export processes. Specific ERP or BI integrations depend on implementation scope.

  • Yes. FoodVu can operate as a standalone structured sustainability data management platform.

Business Case & ROI

  • By standardising sustainability data structures, reducing duplicated supplier requests, enabling reusable governed data exchange, and lowering manual reporting effort.

  • By establishing structured, governed, interoperable sustainability data infrastructure that supports regulatory reporting, supply chain transparency, and evolving exchange standards.

Getting Started

  • FoodVu offers subscription-based pricing tiers. Organisations can start small and move to higher tiers as their feature and scale requirements grow.

  • Onboarding can take as little as a couple of hours for a standalone setup. Data imports and integrations take longer depending on scope and complexity.

  • Yes. Calyx.eco provides a range of professional services to ensure smooth onboarding and implementation.

  • Yes. FoodVu’s structured architecture and tiered subscriptions allow organisations to begin with a focused deployment and scale as requirements expand.
